The first houses in Whitehall went up in 1967. A house that age has usually seen a few owners and a few remodels, and it still tends to have some older flooring tucked into a bedroom or under a rug.
Seven Oaks is one of the older planned parts of this side of the Saluda River, laid out off Piney Grove Rd and Bush River Rd well before most of the county filled in. The homes in Challedon, Grenadier, and Woodland Hills have had decades of family life on their floors. That gives us a different mix of work here than in the newer subdivisions closer to Lexington: older carpet, more area rugs over hardwood, and furniture that's been in the same spot for twenty years.
Old carpet: what cleaning can and can't do
Long-lived carpet can usually be cleaned a lot better than its owners expect. Twenty years of soil is still mostly soil, and it comes out. Our carbonated cleaning lifts it up from the base of the pile, and because almost no water goes in, there's little risk of soaking an old pad or backing that's gotten brittle with age.
What cleaning can't do is undo age itself. If the backing has started to crumble (you'll see fine dust when the carpet is lifted at a corner) or the pile has been crushed flat for years, the carpet will come out cleaner and fresher but it won't look young. Your technician will tell you plainly during the walk-through which camp yours is in, and give you the price before starting. We'd rather you spend the money on new carpet than on a cleaning that won't satisfy you.
Hardwood and rugs
Older homes are more likely to have hardwood somewhere in the house, often with an area rug on top of it. We clean both on the same visit.
Hardwood floors
Our hardwood floor cleaning uses a pH-neutral cleaner and very little moisture, which is safe on finished and engineered wood floors. It takes off the film of grime and old polish that makes a floor look cloudy. It's a cleaning. We don't sand or refinish anything, so if the finish itself is worn through, that's a job for a refinisher.
Area rugs
Rugs are cleaned right in your home. We check the dyes and fiber first, then clean the rug where it lies. If there's hardwood under it, that can be done on the same visit. More on that on the area rug cleaning page.
