Most carpet in Lexington that looks worn out is just dirty. The fiber underneath is usually fine. What drags it down is a gray layer of grit and skin oil, often mixed with old shampoo from the last steam job, and a vacuum slides right over all of it. Get that layer out and a lot of "we need new carpet" conversations end on the spot.

What happens on the visit
Your technician starts by walking the rooms with you. They look at the traffic lanes, the patch in front of the recliner, the doorway where the dog waits for dinner, and they ask what's been spilled and roughly when. Measurements happen here too, so you know the total before anything gets wet.
A light pre-treatment goes into the heavy areas next. It loosens body oil and the tacky residue that holds dirt in place, which plain vacuuming never touches.
Then comes the carbonated cleaning solution. Millions of tiny bubbles push soil up off the fiber and out of the twist, and the wand vacuums it off. A steam unit would pour many times more water into your floor than this does, which is why the pad never gets soaked.
Last, the pile gets groomed so it dries standing up and even. Before packing up, the tech walks the room with you a second time. If a spot didn't come up the way you hoped, say so right then and it gets another pass.
Most rooms are ready for socks in about an hour.
Why less water matters in this climate
Steam cleaning has a humidity problem, and South Carolina has humidity to spare. Soak a July carpet with gallons of hot water and it can stay damp below the surface for a day or longer. That's where the musty smell comes from. It's also why brown spots wick back up and stains seem to return a week later.
We skip the flood. No soap goes into your carpet, which leaves nothing tacky for the next round of dirt to cling to, and the carpet holds its clean longer between visits. People tend to notice that part six months later, when the hallway still looks good.
Add-ons worth asking about
Some homes need more than a standard clean. Your technician can add any of these during the same visit:
- Safety Shield protectant, which helps spills bead up long enough to blot
- An allergen treatment for bedrooms during pollen season
- Antibacterial sanitizer for nurseries, sick rooms, and rentals
- Problem stain removal for coffee, red sports drinks and the mystery spot by the couch
You don't need all of them, and plenty of houses need none. Ask, and you'll get a straight list of which ones fit your rooms and which would be money wasted.
How often to have it done
Every 6 to 12 months covers most households. A quiet house with no pets can stretch to a year. Two dogs and a back door that opens onto a sandy yard will push you toward six months. Spring pine pollen comes in on everyone's shoes, so a lot of our regulars call right after the yellow dust settles on the cars.
Here's a quick test. Stand in the doorway and compare the traffic lane to the carpet under the couch. If the lane looks a shade darker, the grit in it is already grinding at the fiber every time someone walks through.
